5G the Enabler and the BYOND Mobile Event

The following post was written by Daniel Lewis - founder and executive chair of Awen Collective.

There is no doubt that 5G is a good step forward in wireless communication. It's faster, provides greater redundancy and is (as a technology) relatively well thought through in terms of cyber security of 5G infrastructure. There are also added benefits with the application of private 5G networks.

The increase in speed that 5G provides means that sensors are able to relay data back to a base at much closer to real time, and control and automation can happen with greater reactivity to input.

Applications of 5G are vast, but some of the most exciting applications are in healthcare, smart cities, manufacturing and critical national infrastructure.

BYOND Mobile 2022 Opening Keynote by Chaiwut Thanakamanusorn, Minister of Digital Economy and Society (MDES) of Thailand

It's because of the range of industrial sectoral applications that the brand new BYOND Mobile exhibition by VNU (the international exhibitions company) in Bangkok, Thailand, came to our attention. BYOND Mobile 2022 which was on the 28th and 29th September 2022, was focused on the broad applications of 5G, and had support from telecoms companies, 5G infrastructure device vendors, public sector bodies, manufacturers, universities and B2B service providers.

Arrived early to set up the Awen Collective stand at BYOND Mobile 2022

Awen Collective was part of a delegation of UK businesses exhibiting in a UK Pavilion at the event, supported by the British Embassy in Bangkok (our thanks to the UK Department for International Trade [DIT], and the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Development Office [FCDO]). Awen was proudly exhibiting alongside BT, AstraZenica, Easson Energy, Albeego, EMS and GraphCore.

Speaking with Dr Mike Short CBE, the Chief Scientific Officer of DIT

I was also on a panel alongside representatives from RV Connex and Ericsson. We were interviewed by Mark Wächter. Our discussion was on the importance of cyber security in a networked society. There were many in the audience for our main stage discussion, and it seemed to be very well received. After our discussion; Dr Mike Short CBE, who is the Chief Scientific Officer for DIT, gave the closing keynote of BYOND.

All in all, the event was great. It was my first time in Bangkok, Thailand and even in South East Asia. However, we have started something now, and this won't be the last you hear about Awen in Thailand. This is just the beginning!
